| News Story of James
Missing for four years, James is finally home! James was one of two indoor/outdoor cats belonging to Lee and Terri Donahoe who reside in Bangor. One day in December 2003, these rascals decided to investigate the neighborhood. Neither one ever made it back home. James was rescued by Save-A-Pet and adopted 9 months later. After a few years with his new owners, the adoption was not working out (their other cats were beating him up), so they took James to the vet office to be euthanized. A vet tech working there took James home. The tech's mother was a former volunteer with Second Chance Pet Adoption & Rescue, so she called another Second Chance volunteer, Naomi Gauntlett of Penn Estates. She asked Naomi to take the cat and get him adopted as she could not keep him. Second Chance was not accepting any more cats, so Naomi took James in through Animals Can't Talk, a Queens, New York, based shelter that Naomi works with independently. James was taken to an adopt-a-thon at Washington Pet Store in Bangor. While exiting Ace Hardware Store, Lee saw James through the window. Lee said the hair on the back of his neck stood up. He called his wife over and the two of them came rushing into the store with their daughter, excitedly shouting "that's my cat, that's my James". They announced they were going home for their carrier. They were asked to complete an application form, and were told that a paper trail would have to be done to verify that this was their cat. If it was their cat, it would be returned to them; however if its not, a reference check would have to be done and an adoption fee paid. An hour later the Donahoe's returned with pictures and vet bills to prove it was their cat. After many attempts to get a copy of the paper work from the vet, it was finally received and it stated that James had already been neutered when he went there. All paperwork and dates indicated that this was indeed James. Lee and his daughter Shawna met with Naomi on Saturday, December 1st at Creature Comforts Veterinary Service in Saylorsburg. Shawna said she was turning 8 years old the next day and it was a wonderful birthday present. She was 4 years old when James went missing. Lee said you have no idea what this has done for my family. Lee and Terri have promised that James will now strictly be an indoor cat. James' wandering companion is still missing. The lesson from this: do not let your cat out. If you must, then have your cat micro chipped. |
